Young M.A’s hit “OOOUUU” has been everywhere and if anyone were to proclaim it the song of the summer, it would be hard to disagree.
TMZ caught up with the Brooklyn rapper and asked the 24-year-old if she felt like she could inspire young gay people.
The emcee told paps she feels she’s important to the industry as an openly gay rapper and thinks she can be a role model to young people everywhere.
Young M.A also explained she thinks listeners are starting to take more of an interest in her music and focusing less on her sexuality: “You’re going to have people who criticize and those things, but that’s part of the game.”

Aside from Young M.A’s hit song, she was approached for a role on Empire, which she turned down. “I just didn’t want to be known as a character from Empire before I was known as Young M.A,” she explained.
And, while she isn’t sure of what’s to come, she told the The Fader, “I can just say, in 2017, I’ma make sure I be working twice as hard.”
