Many of us grew up listening to car CDs featuring Cece Winan‘s gospel albums. It was a positive way to start the day with praise and endless gratitude. Her voice is a constant in a plethora of our memories. She’s a generational talent that will always surpass the restrictions of trends because gospel music holds an eternity of experiences.
Winans was known for restorative albums like Alone In His Presence, her self-titled album in 2001, and The Kingdom Come, but her fashion sense remained an inspiration for us as well. She’d adorn her temple often in suits and modest dresses and skirts with blouses that were full coverage but still stylish. Her style spoke to the modern Christian Black woman who wanted to be fashionable without compromising modesty.
One look we can never get over is from a red carpet appearance at the 2007 Trumpet Awards where she wore a striped suit with a velvet finish with a slight sheen in the stripes. Her top underneath would still be popular today with a sheer panel at the top. She added a pair of simple black open-toe heels and a pair of dangly tiered earrings to complete her look.
It was fabulous, modest, and inspiring to any woman watching her at the time. Channel this outfit for any event that you want to feel confident and comfortable. Take a look at the items we’ve selected to recreate this look, below.
