Our Winter Issue star actress Erika Alexander’s red carpet and personal style has always been colorful and eclectic. As Maxine Shaw on Living Single she wore oversized suits, mini-dresses with opaque and sheer tights, and skirt sets. Alexander’s career has stood the test of time–to many she’s seen as an excellent thespian. Her acting prowess has led her from Living Single to Run The World and most recently she’s landed in the film industry. Her latest role in the Oscar winner American Fiction was a memorable one. On the red carpet now, she’s seen wearing colorful and experimental gowns with eccentric hairstyles. At the start of her career, she dressed similarly to her character in Living Single wearing oversized blazers, suits, and simple little black dresses with hats and scarves as accessories.
One of those looks that stood out to us the most from her past was this one from 2011 at the NAACP Awards. To the prestigious affair, Alexander wore a black mini dress with a pair of sheer tights and black boots. The neckline of the dress gave it an elevated element by making an otherwise basic dress interesting. She kept the look minimal, very ‘90s, but in a modern way.

Gil Rodriguez’s El Tigre mini dress has a very similar shape to Ericka’s on the red carpet. The only difference is it’s a modern spin on the LBD.
