420 is here! The national stoner holiday has commenced today. While there are so many jokes around this day, it’s beautiful to see Black people, in particular, get the chance to celebrate a day like this. It’s known that Black people are at the highest rate of imprisonment for the possession of marijuana. Yet, in the face of adversity, Black people always rise above and find a way to uplift each other. Weed, for many, isn’t just for recreational use; for many, it’s a way to cope with generational trauma that has gone unhealed, and sometimes the only way to get through it is to be high, and there’s nothing wrong with that.
What we should be doing is supporting Black-owned businesses that work within the cannabis industry to help de-stigmatize and de-colonize our minds towards weed and just celebrate those who are trying to do so. States where weed is legal and decriminalized are Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, and Washington.
