Fashion trends evolve at rapid speeds these days, and even before the advent of social media, the majority of fashion trends were thought to wax and wane in and out of style every 20 years, so there’s something to be said about the ones that manage to find their way back to the forefront season after season. For instance, it goes without saying that you can expect to see plaid fashion styles dominating the scene just about every fall. This time, however, brands are paying special attention to how the cool girl would wear it.
Of course, the writings were all over the Fall 2022 runways months ago – Duncan debuted dark-hued, studded plaid sets; At Versace, plaid meant oversized, tweed blazers and frayed corset dresses; and at Gucci, capes, suits, and skirts layered over trousers. Over on social media, Chopova Lowena’s hardware-adorned plaid mini skirt has already quickly aligned itself with other It-items of the moment. For the less eclectic, you don’t have to go full-on edgy or grunge to get the look and can instead opt for lighter, pastel hues, traditional neutrals, or a pair of pared-down, wide-leg trousers to style back to a cozy cardigan or a matching blazer. This season, in a nutshell, plaid is all about whatever you want it to be.
Ahead, we’ve rounded up 14 styles to consider while you’re plotting on your wardrobe for the season – and we love style we know we’ll be pulling out again next year, too.
