Over the weekend, Kelly Price became the most recent celebrity to find themself in the center of a social media criticism firestorm. All the chatter began when Price sang her hit cover of Shirley Murdock’s 1986 classic “As We Lay” (you know the one about a forbidden, adulterous relationship between a married woman and man?) at a gospel event.
After performing the song at the Indiana Black Gospel Expo Showcase 2016, the online backlash began, with many fans saying the move was less than holy while her supporters believe there was no harm in Price singing about the realities of adultery, even in front of a Christian audience.
No matter which side of the argument you’re one, one things for sure: “As We Lay” is certainly not the first mega R&B hit to shed light on a woman’s infidelities.
Of course we know they’re just songs, but these are the juiciest lyrical love triangles and confessions of all time.
