A 92-year-old South Carolina woman attended the Midlands Tech graduation this past week to cheer on a new graduate—herself.
Annie Dillard, a hair salon owner in Columbia, S.C., earned her fourth college degree this week, an effort that keeps her mind sharp, she told WLTX 19.
“It feels wonderful,” she said. “I feel excited!”
Dillard was the first to walk the stage during the ceremony on Wednesday to pick up her new Associate Degree in Liberal Arts. She even arrived 1.5 hours early in anticipation of the big event.
“They told me to get here at 5:30, but I like to be on time, so I got here at 4 o’clock,” she said.
But she is not done with just four degrees. She begins work on her next diploma later this month. This time, she wants to earn her fifth college degree in childhood education.
As for her advice for anyone thinking of going back to school: “My advice is you can make it if you try, but you have to start somewhere.”
Congratulations!
