The Dallas traffic reporter who was body-shamed earlier this week by a viewer has taken to her social media to thank fans for their support.
Channel 8’s Demetria Obilor said that haters were open to explore “other options” if they were not happy with how she looked, according to a video she posted.
“This is the way that I’m built. This is the way I was born. I’m not going anywhere, so if you don’t like it, you have your options,” she said.
Obilor was defended by thousands on social media after Jann Shedd, a viewer, called Obilor out for being a “size 16/18 woman in a size 6 dress.”
Shedd made her comments on Facebook Wednesday, which went viral after user Mother of Draggings tweeted a screengrab of the post. Chance the Rapper even chimed in with his own thoughts of the story.
In a later post, after deleting the original one, Shedd says she was wrongly attacked by the “racist mafia” after sharing her opinion. She added that this had nothing to do with race.
“Frankly, I didn’t even notice that she was black,” she wrote. “I was shocked that Channel 8 would put someone on air that was so provocatively dressed.”
As for Obilor, she is focusing on her defenders and not the hate: “…To the people who show love: I love you right back,” she said.
