Swag Surfin’ has been one of the most cherished traditions within the HBCU community. So why not bring it to graduation to celebrate the victory?
Recent graduates of Howard University and Langston University did just that.
During both of their spring 2017 commencement ceremony, students were seen doing the epic dance together while celebrating their #BlackGirlMagic and #BlackBoyJoy.

But this wasn’t the first time that the Washington, D.C.-based University brought the legendary dance to their graduation. HU students are known to break out in a swag surf at any given time.
Langston University, which is the only historically Black college in Oklahoma, did the dance during this year’s ceremony of college graduates.
Yep this was at Langston at the same time on Saturday. I had relatives at both. pic.twitter.com/LMa3UsWyev
Here’s a look into some of the most monumental Swag Surfs from HBCUs like North Carolina A&T State University, Prairie View A&M and Virginia State University.
We have hip hop group F.L.Y. (Fast Life Yungstaz) to thank for their 2009 hit song “Swag Surfin’,” which will forever remain as an anthem not only amongst HBCU campuses nationwide, but the entire Black community.
