For eight years, we’ve been lucky to have the Obamas in office and during that time, Michelle Obama solidified her place as not only one of the most beloved First Ladies, but a First Lady of pop culture.
In an unprecdented move, both FLOTUS and President Obama used television appearances and social media to their advantage — whether it was to change the world or give us a few laughs.
And Mrs. Obama did it so well, we’re wondering if her second calling is late-night TV!
Here are some of our favorite Michelle Obama pop culture moments.
The Eye Roll That Rolled Around The Globe
It was the eye roll, seen, tweeted, and talked about across the world. During the 2013 Inauguration Day luncheon, while seated next to former Speaker of the House John Boehner, the First Lady appeared to roll her eyes at a comment Boehner made. In that moment we all became Michelle, reminded of the countless times we’ve had to roll our eyes at something a man said. It also became the perfect GIF for almost every ”ugh” situation.
A Champion Of Black Girls Everywhere
In 2015, FLOTUS graced the Black Girls Rock stage to honor the M.A.D. Girls, a trio of young women (Kaya Thomas, Chental-Soing Bembry and Gabrielle Jordan) making a difference in the world. Her speech did more than just honor the women on the stage; the First Lady spoke directly to Black women everywhere.
A Natural At Carpool Karaoke
The First Lady’s late night appearances are some of the best and one of the most memorable was her ”Carpool Karaoke” segment on The Late Late Show with James Corden, during which she turned up to Beyoncé’s “Single Ladies” and jammed with Missy Elliot to “This Is For My Girls” and “Get Ur Freak On.”
College Rapper — Kinda
The First Lady teamed up with Jay Pharoah and College Humor for a cute video urging kids to consider college. FLOTUS definitely has bars.
Taking Mom Dancing To The Next Level
For her “Let’s Move” initiative, Obama teamed up with Fallon to take on the “Evolution of Mom Dancing,” showing us moves we never thought we’d see again.
Queen Of The #MannequinChallenge
FLOTUS was joined by the Cleveland Cavaliers for a presidential mannequin challenge, once again proving that she’s the coolest and most on trend First Lady America has ever had.
Dinner Table Impressions
Turns out Michelle Obama can do a mean Barack impression. Chatting with Stephen Colbert she revealed that she and the couple’s daughters Malia and Sasha often do impression of Barack at the dinner table.

Sometimes your boo jokes too much, that seemed to be the case when a video of Barack teasing Michelle at a baseball game in Cuba launched the GIF that keeps on giving.
FLOTUS Gets Acquainted With CVS
While we’re sure Michelle Obama has been to CVS, she joined Ellen on a trip to the drugstore to get acclimated to life after the White House. Their hilarious adventure included signing boxes of wine and using a Coinstar.
Michelle Obama’s Star Turn
Obama tried her hand at acting by making a surprise on NBC’s Parks and Recreation as a keynote speaker for a national parks event.
The Angry Black Woman Stereotype
Obama addressed her haters when she sat down with Oprah to address the racial stereotype of the “angry black woman.” She told the media mogul, “I thought, ‘Ok, then let me live my life out loud. So then people can see and judge for themselves.” And, that’s what I want people to do, just live your life.”
