It looks like Power star Naturi Naughton has her hands full as a mother both on and off-screen!
Fans of the critically-acclaimed STARZ drama series love Naughton’s character, Tasha St. Patrick, for the no-nonsense way in which she handles her household as a wife, business partner and mother to the St. Partrick children. But for Naturi, playing the role of a hard-working mother went from being a part of her career to part of her real life when she gave birth to her daughter last July.
Speaking to media in the 2018 ESSENCE Festival press room, the 34-year-old actress and singer dished on playing the role of a mother struggling to cope with the unexpected loss of a child on last season of Power, all while pregnant with her own baby girl. While the tragedies of her character’s storyline were certainly not without its’ challenges, there’s no question of which role in her life is the most important.
“When you get a role in a movie or on a show, that’s exciting,” she said. “But this—motherhood and being a mother– is the best and biggest role of my life.”
Among the many things Naughton is looking forward to as a first-time mom is getting to see her daughter become a part of the Black Girl Magic movement.
“I can’t wait for my daughter, Zuri, to experience Black Girl Magic and the movement of celebrating beautiful brown women,” she added. “I’m honored to be a part of that example.”
