A Bronx doctor had been placed “off duty” while his hospital investigates his alleged white supremacist views.
According to the Gothamist, Dr. Dov Bechhofer, a resident radiologist at Montefiore Medical Center, was outed as a white supremacist in a now-deleted Medium article this week. The article alleged that Bechhofer was an alleged prolific commenter on several neo-nazi websites.
It also alleged that he promoted the creation of a white ethnostate via the forced deportation of people of color.
The site also reports that the deleted Medium article claimed both Bechhofer had notable similarities to an Internet user by the name of ‘Dov’, including their origins, job occupations and questionable connections to white nationalists Jared Taylor and Spencer Quinn, among others. Bechhofer is also supposedly friends with several other white supremacists, according to the anonymous author of the post, and appears to have been among those who supported the 2017 white supremacist march in Charlottesville that resulted in multiple assaults and the death of a counter-protester.
Montefiore Medical Center immediately put out a statement that they have placed Bechhofer off duty until a thorough investigation was finished.
“The views expressed in the article are in no way reflective of Montefiore, our mission, how we conduct ourselves, or the care we deliver each day,” the statement said.
As for Bechhofer, he did not admit nor deny that he had done the things alleged in the article, instead telling the Gothamist that he is “not supposed to speak about this. I’m not discussing it at this moment.”
