Those who know singer Fantasia’s journey may be aware that she dropped out of school at a young age. The singer recently announced that she’s going back to further her education. She shared the news with fans during an Instagram live.
“I went back to school. Shout out to my soror Yvonne. She’s back in school, I’m back in school, we push each other, motivate each other,” she said.
This isn’t the 38-year-old’s first time trying to prioritize her education since dropping out. The sensational singer, who won American Idol back in 2004, got her GED and became an honorary graduate of a North Carolina class in 2010. Fantasia then went on to become an honorary member of Sigma Gamma Rho in 2022.
“Y’all have no idea how long I been waiting to share this news!!” the mother of three and wife wrote on Instagram in a caption at the time. “I’ve officially been inducted as an Honorary #SigmaGammaRho 💙🐩💛. #D9 #sorority #prettypoodle THANK YOU… I am overjoyed.”
Fantasia dropped out of high school at the age of 14. She then got pregnant with her first child, Zion Quari Barrino, at the age of 17. Her daughter was an inspiration for her deciding to get her GED in 2009.
“I’ve been talking about it for so long,” Fantasia said. “I have a lot of young people who look up to me, like my 15-year-old brother and 7-year-old daughter. It’s something that I really need to do and that I want to do.”
Fast forward to 2023, Fantasia is being an example for her brood, which now includes her son Dallas, born in 2011, and daughter Keziah from her marriage to husband Kendall Taylor, born in May 2021. She and Taylor got married in July, 2015. They followed their guts and got married after three weeks of dating.
