2 Dope Queens is coming to the small screen. HBO announced Thursday that the network is adapting the podcast into four hourlong specials hosted by Jessica Williams and Phoebe Robinson.
Williams and Robinson first launched 2 Dope Queens, which tapes in front of a live audience in Brooklyn, in 2016. The podcast features stand-up sets by guest comedians, as well as conversations between Williams, Robinson, and others about topics ranging from sex to race to what happened to them that day.
“Jessica Williams and Phoebe Robinson prove you can be hilarious and socially conscious at the same time,” HBO programming president Casey Bloys said in a statement. “We are looking forward to bringing these very funny, talented women and their unique points of view to the HBO audience.”
Williams previously teased something big happening with 2 Dope Queens in a July interview with EW promoting her Netflix movie The Incredible Jessica James. “2 Dope Queens has some really cool, big stuff going on that’s going to be a really cool experience for us and everyone around us,” she said at the time.
“We are so stoked to be partnering with HBO for these specials,” she said in a statement announcing the news. “Excited to add a couple more Khaleesis to the network!”
“2 Dope Queens and HBO going half on a TV baby? A dream come true!” Robinson said. “The work wife and I are beyond thrilled that the formula we’ve perfected over the past four seasons of doing the podcast (Ignorance x Cocoa Butter + Comedic Honesty) is being brought to this network.”
Along with The Incredible Jessica James, streaming now, Williams is also known for The Daily Show. Robinson is a comedian and writer who has appeared on TV shows like I Love Dick and Broad City. She has another podcast, titled Sooo Many White Guys, and released her first book, You Can’t Touch My Hair (And Other Things I Still Have to Explain),last year.
