Looks like Starz and 50 Cent are bumping heads over hit series Power.
On Monday, the rapper and actor, who also plays Kanan and is an executive producer, posted on Instagram, “I woke up feeling a little different about POWER this morning . If the biggest show on your network doesn’t mean anything, what does your network mean STARZ? I’m taking my talents to south beach f–k this.”
More images followed, which seem to imply that once Power’s fourth season is over, 50 plans to pull the plug.
The rapper has a now show set to air on BET, 50 Central, so cutting ties with Power would free him up to focus on that.
Power, which is one of Starz’s biggest shows along with Outlander, has yet to receive awards recognition despite praise from fans and critics. The network also refused to do a 12-episode role out, instead combining Sunday’s episode into one.
Creator Courtney Kemp told Entertainment Weekly, that there were plans to expand more on Ghost’s time in prison as well as other story elements, but writers were forced to cut them.
“Unfortunately, Starz would not give us the extra episode,” Kemp said. “I asked them for 12 episodes for Season 4, and they would not do it. So because they would not do it, we had to make it one episode.”
We hope Starz and 50 can come to some sort of agreement, if not, we’d love to see another network give the show the treatment it deserves.
