Alicia Keys has released the video for her latest single, “Blended Family (What You Do for Love)” and it’s a testament to the growth seen within her own family.
In the video for the A$AP Rocky-featured track, she displays her own blended family: husband Swizz Beatz and sons Egypt and Genesis, alongside Swizz’s son Prince Nasir from a previous relationship and son Kasseem Dean Jr. from his first marriage with Mashonda.
These are beautiful and intimate family moments that Keys doesn’t often share with the public.

“My new song ‘Blended Family (What You Do For Love)’ is inspired by my family’s personal journey to cultivate deeper understanding, compassion, support and love,” Keys said of the track when it was released. “To me, the word ‘family’ has no singular definition and the modern family is made up of all kinds of beautiful people of different walks of life willing to put love first.”
The relationship between Keys, Swizz Beatz, and Mashonda was rocky for a time following the 2010 divorce of Swizz and Mashonda. But they have since come a long way when it comes to forgiveness and letting go, Mashonda told ESSENCE in an exclusive interview.
“Once you are willing to let go of those feelings, forgiving becomes easy,” she said. “It’s an evolution to know you can reach that point as a human being.”
“We had no real choice,” she said of creating a healthy environment for the children and the adults. “Having them involved means the world to me.
