Angelica Ross is booked, busy, and blessed!
The actress announced Wednesday that she will be joining the upcoming season of American Horror Story: 1984, which will serve as an homage to 1980s slasher films.
Her role as a series regular on the upcoming horror anthology is also one for the books.
Along with news of her joining American Horror Story: 1984, Ross tweeted, “I am ELATED to make history as the first trans actor to secure 2 series regular roles, leaping from #PoseFX to #AHS1984. Thank you @MrRPMurphy for the gift of playing Candy & creating my newest role on American Horror Story! I’m so honored & excited to join the @AHSFX family!!!”
Spoilers ahead!
Sadly, the star’s role on Pose as Candy Ferocity came to an end Tuesday, when Ross’ character was murdered in a hotel room, leaving her friends completely devastated.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the actress said, “It’s one of those things that I feel like as soon as I heard the information and was devastated and wanted to first ask, ‘Why? Why me? Why Candy?’ It was just such an echo of the same sentiment to any Black trans woman that’s been passing week after week. Why them?”
Since the beginning of 2019, there have been 11 reported murders of Black transgender women. And the average life expectancy of a transgender woman of color is 35.
Unfortunately, Candy’s end reflects the reality of many Black trans women.
Ross’ co-stars shared their thanks and praise of the actress following the episode with writer-director Janet Mock tweeting, “Dear @angelicaross: thanks for being our Candy, for putting more depth into a one-liner than we could ever write, for always coming through with the perfect adlib, for being a true star, phenomenal woman and actor. I cannot wait until everyone hears about your new role!”
We can’t wait to see what the future has in store for Angelica Ross.
