Everyone is talking about Anthony Hamilton’s rendition of the National Anthem at Sunday’s NBA All-Star Game in Charlotte, North Carolina for good reason —- he did that!
The Charlene singer’s rendition was soulful and mesmerizing all at once — and many are already putting his version up there with the great performances of the song, including Marvin Gaye’s rendition of the National Anthem at the NBA All-Star game in 1983.
Hamilton’s performance was also a far cry from Fergie’s attempt at last year’s game.
It was fitting that he was chosen to perform because he is a Charlotte, North Carolina native.
“I know I’m not boo-proof,” he told The Undefeated of his plans for the performance. “The safest thing to do is to not do too much…People like the National Anthem more standard, but you can also make it your own with different inflections and vocal textures.”
