As if we couldn’t love the Shea Butter Baby herself even more, Ari Lennox just dropped a new music video for her song, “BMO,” and she has us completely stanning.
Directed by Child, the DC songstress serves sultry vocals and retro looks in a bathtub, on the couch, and in front of a metallic back drop inspired by Missy Elliott‘s iconic “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly)” music video.
A Queen who can sing and pays homage to Queens before her?! Give us more!
“Break me off/Gichie Gichie yaya/When the lights is out,” Lennox croons on the chorus. “I’m summer time crushin’/Put that game on pause/And do it how I like it/Baby, nice and slow.
“This one of my favorite music videos ever,” she tweeted. “The song and music video were inspired by Total and Missy Elliott.”
The artist even received a nod of approval from Missy “Misdeameanor” Elliott herself, where she added, “Keep doing ya thang no matter what! You shinning.”
The nostalgic video also takes viewers on a reminiscent stroll down 90s memory lane inspired by Total’s “Trippin” music video, with Lennox recreating the signature bathtub scene from the visual for the 1998 hit.
