Ava DuVernay has teamed up again with Oprah Winfrey’s OWN Network to bring even more Black love to the small screen.
It’s called Cherish the Day and the anthology drama, as it’s being dubbed, was created and executive produced by the award-winning director. Starring Underground actor Alano Miller and The Mindy Project actress Xosha Roquemore, Cherish centers on an everyday couple. What makes this series unique is that each episode spans one single day in the couple’s lives. The entire eight-episode season chronicles the Los Angeles residents’ lives over five years.
The 30-second trailer teased audiences when it dropped Thursday, showing the two in love, exchanging glanges, holding hands and even dancing. The trailer also featured Emmy Award-winning actress Cicely Tyson. The legendary actress joins other cast members, including Michael Beach, Anne-Marie Johnson and Kellee Stewart.
DuVernay continues to break myths when it comes to not being able to find women in Hollywood as Cherish the Day features 18 female department heads and boasts a crew that’s over 50% women.
The director is no stranger to the OWN Network, having her other hit drama, Queen Sugar, already on the network. It was recently confirmed for a fifth season to debut in 2020, Variety reports.
