Everyone knows that Black people love them some Tevin Campbell and Ava Duvernay is no exception. The award-winning filmmaker stepped in to show her support for the “Can We Talk” singer when some on social media had the audacity to question Campbell’s current cultural relevancy.
Back in August, she tweeted that she was “rebuking any Tevin Campbell slander,” and vowed to work with the Grammy-nominated performer into an episode of OWN’s Queen Sugar.
“Plotting to write him into an episode of Queen Sugar SOMEHOW. On general principle,” she wrote then.
Duvernay has proved to be a woman who stands by her word. Campbell is scheduled to appear on the critically-acclaimed drama series this season.
Campbell expressed his gratitude to Duvernay for following through with her public commitment to place him back in the limelight in a recent video filmed on the set.
“This is so exciting for me and I want to thank Ava Duvernay,” said Campbell in the video. “Ava Duvernay she is a doer she kept her word, and I want to thank the cast and the crew for making me feel at home, like I’ve been here for years. Oh my God! Y’all don’t even understand how excited I am!”
Campbell was careful not to actually share any spoilers about his storyline.
“That’s all I’m going to give away as of now, but you have to stay tuned to season 4 baby,” he concluded.
Season 4 of OWN’s Queen Sugar will premiere on June 12.
