Director Ava DuVernay is working with Netflix on a documentary about the late legend Prince.
According to Variety, the acclaimed producer/director has been working on the project with the full cooperation of the Purple Rain artist’s estate for several months now. As a result, she will have full access to interviews, archival footage, and photos as she creates a multi-part documentary exploring the late legend’s entire life.
“Prince was a genius and a joy and a jolt to the senses,” Duvernay told Deadline. “The only way I know how to make this film is with love. And with great care. I’m honored to do so and grateful for the opportunity entrusted to me by the estate.”
According to Deadline, Prince had also reached out to the Queen Sugar creator, before his death, to work on a documentary on his life.
There’s great news fans: DuVernay has already begun working on the doc. She’s been visiting Prince’s Paisley Park home and studios in Chanhassen, Minnesota repeatedly over the past several months.
We can’t wait to see the final result.
