Beyoncé’s new album The Lion King: The Gift has been out for just over a day — and many can agree that “Brown Skin Girl” is the standout track.
The song, with an assist by Wizkid and SAINt JHN, is a love letter to Black girls around the world. And with Blue Ivy on the track, it has an even deeper meaning.
The 7-year-old daughter of Bey and Jay-Z can be heard singing the song’s lyrics at the beginning and the end of the song.
“Brown skin girl/ your skin just like pearls/ the best thing in the world / I’d never trade you for anybody else,” she sings.
Bey’s second verse goes on to mention Lupita Nyong’o, Kelly Rowland, and Naomi Campbell, all women famous for their gorgeous skin tone. Nyong’o even uploaded a video of herself grooving to the song.
“Pose like a trophy when Naomis walk in/She need an Oscar for that pretty dark skin/Pretty like Lupita when the cameras close in/Drip broke the levee when my Kellys roll in.”
Many showed the song love on social media!
We love it!
