Black Panther 2 finally has a date!
Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, welcomed the film’s co-writer and director Ryan Googled onstage for his presentation at the D23 Expo 2019 to announce that the next installment of franchise will hit U.S. theaters on May 6, 2022.
It was announced last October that Coogler would return to write and direct the sequel to the blockbuster Black Panther, which made $700 million in domestic theaters and became the highest-selling Marvel movie of all time. The film went on to pass the billion-dollar mark worldwide.
Chadwick Boseman is said to be on board to play T’Challa, king of the fictional African nation of Wakanda, for the sequel.
Feige jokingly asked Coogler if they should reveal the name of the film at the convention held in Anaheim, CA, but decided that it’s too early for that.
“We’re really hard at work on it, trying to give you guys something special,” Coogler said “We’re definitely taking our time with this… We really really want it to be right.”
