On December 8, NPR debuted Essence digital cover stars Chloe x Halle’s Tiny Desk (Home) Concert and fans were once again wowed by their refined vocals.
The sisters began their performance with their song “Don’t Matter To Me,” from their most recent album Ungodly Hour, backed by a band composed of all women. They followed up with their song “Baby Girl” from the same album, with Chloe saying that they “wrote the song as a mantra to let ourselves know that whatever happens, we’ll be okay and that this is our world.” There’s certainly no denying that is their world and that 2020 is their year.
At the height of the first round of lockdowns, Chloe showed off her skills on the beat machine, as she backed their at live, at-home covers and mashups of popular songs. The duo also became known for their various tennis court performances, proving their ingenuity and ability to thrive no matter what comes their way. They were also the first celebrities to showcase Beyoncé’s second drop of her Adidas x Ivy Park clothing collection.
Halle is set to star as Ariel in the upcoming live-action version of The Little Mermaid.
Although the R&B singers have been making music for nearly a decade, they’ve been continuous hot topics with the release of their most recent album, Ungodly Hour. The album debuted at number 2 on the Top R&B Albums chart for Billboard and received a Grammy nomination for Best Progressive R&B Album. Their single ‘Do It,’ which they also performed for Tiny Desk, was nominated for Best R&B Song, while their song “Wonder What She Thinks of Me,” was nominated for Best Traditional R&B Performance. They closed out their stunning set with the latter.
