Nineties pop culture juggernaut Clueless is making a comeback—this time as a TV series!
The 1995 movie followed Alicia Silverstone’s Cher Horowitz, a California high schooler who had a penchant for matchmaking. The movie was also adapted into a TV series in 1996 and ran for three seasons. But now a new creator wants to bring it back with a twist.
According to Deadline, the new series will be centered on Dionne, Cher’s Black bestie played by Stacey Dash. It is not clear if Dash, or anyone from the original cast, will be involved.
“The new Clueless—Mean Girls meets Riverdale meets a Lizzo music video—also is set in high school. It is described as a baby pink and bisexual blue-tinted, tiny sunglasses-wearing, oat milk latté and Adderall-fueled look at what happens when the high school queen bee Cher disappears and her lifelong No. 2 Dionne steps into Cher’s vacant Air Jordans,” Deadline writes.
“How does Dionne deal with the pressures of being the new most popular girl in school, while also unraveling the mystery of what happened to her best friend, all in a setting that is uniquely 2020 L.A.?” they ask.
Different networks and streaming services are said to be clamoring for the new show, which is being executive produced by Corinne Brinkerhoff through her development deal with CBS TV Studios.
Would you be here for a Dionne-centered Clueless reboot?
