The weather may be cold, but it’s looking like April will be a hot month after Coachella announced its much-anticipated lineup on Tuesday.
The Indio, California music festival debuted its most diverse lineup in its 19-year history with four Black women in its top bill: Beyoncé, SZA and Cardi B. Other Black women artists on the lineup include Kelela, Lion Babe, Tank and the Bangas (lead by frontwoman Tarriona Ball), Kamaiyah, Dej Loaf and Noname.
Beyoncé was scheduled to perform in 2017, but soon canceled, after announcing her pregnancy. Her headlining the weekend of April 14 is expected to bring out many more new attendees. SZA and Cardi B, who had a fantastic 2017, are also major acts hitting the stage —who are both nominated for their first Grammys.
Also performing during the two-weekend festival are Daniel Caesar, Kamasi Washington, Migos, Tyler the Creator, Chic featuring Neil Rodgers, Wizkid, Miguel, French Montana, Princess Nokia and Jidenna.
In the past, the festival has primarily catered toward alternative music bands, but in recent years has welcomed mainstream acts such as Kanye West and Lady Gaga.
In its 19th year, this year’s Coachella is set for the weekends of April 13 – 15 and April 20 – 22.
Passes for Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival go on sale Friday, January 5 at 12:00 PM PST at coachella.com.
