In what is turning into an all-star cast, Gabourey Sidibe has signed on for a recurring role on Lee Daniels’ Empire. The hip-hop family drama, also starring Taraji P. Henson and Terrence Howard, will see Sidibe play Becky, the hard working assistant of Howard’s character, Lucious Lyon. The role reunites Sidibe with Daniels who last worked together on Daniels’ Oscar-nominated film, Precious. [HollywoodReporter]
Boondocks creator Aaron McGruder has received the green light to produce a new scripted comedy called Black Jesus for Adult Swim. The show follows Jesus as he tries to spread his mission of love and kindness while living in present day Compton, California. Black Jesus will star Gerald “Slink” Johnson, Charlie Murphy, Corey Holcomb and John Witherspoon. Production for the project has begun and will premiere later this year. [HollywoodReporter]
Jay Z and Kanye West are set to perform at SXSW. The news comes just two days before the big concert but with a slight catch, the exclusive concert is only available to owners of Galaxy devices who also have the newly-launched radio service Milk Music downloaded. Once those conditions are met, fans can pick up special wristbands, however, the location of the concert won’t be announced until the show day. [Billboard]
Ciara plans to bring her baby into the world in style. The singer has reportedly invested in a $20K animal-themed nursery for her little bundle of joy, due next month. Ciara and fiancé Future stopped by L.A. baby store Petit Tresor, dropping $1,800 on an 8-foot stuffed giraffe and the remaining funds on stuffed animals, lion book ends and art work. [TMZ]
