• The movie roles keep coming in for Idris Elba. He’s set to star in the upcoming thriller Bastille Day, according to the Hollywood Reporter. The film, written by Andrew Baldwin, follows an American artist living Paris and a former CIA agent, who are teamed up at the last minute to divert an attack on the City of Lights. Unfortunately, fans will have to wait a while to see this in theaters. The film has yet to tap a director and it’s still in the development phase. [Hollywood Reporter]
• Did you know there was casting drama over Disney’s hit film, Princess and the Frog? According to director Jen Rudin, who talks about it in detail in his new autobiography, superstar Beyoncé wanted the part but didn’t want to audition. Actresses Jennifer Hudson, Tyra Banks and Alicia Keys all auditioned for the same role. Keys auditioning three times before the part was officially given to Anika Noni Rose. Rudin calls Rose the “most qualified” of the group. [Extra TV]
• Kanye West is taking to fatherhood very well. According to TMZ, West flew home to Los Angeles bright and early Tuesday morning after partying at Leonardo DiCaprio’s 39th birthday bash in New York City. Upon arriving in L.A. at 6 a.m., he picked up his daughter, Nori, and took her for a routine doctor visit. [TMZ]
• Yesterday, Mariah Carey released her long awaited song, “The Art of Letting Go,” the title track to her upcoming album. She sings of over the loss of love in the ballad. Carey calls the new record “personal.” “I wrote the lyrics so that anyone and everyone could relate to them and hopefully release anything that they need to let go of that’s holding them back or bringing them down,” she explained.
