- The First Lady is set to guest star on the one-hour season finale of Parks and Recreation. Mrs. Obama will be in the episode titled “Moving Up,” which was filmed in late February in Miami. She is one of many politicians to guest star on the show, including Joe Biden, John McCain and Olympia Snowe. The episode will air Thursday, April 24 at 8 p.m. [HollywoodReporter]
- The NAACP has released official statements applauding President Obama for his “My Brother’s Keeper” initiative, launched Thursday during a White House event. Lorraine C. Miller, Interim President and CEO of the NAACP said: “The positive force of this groundbreaking initiative will help counter the negative influences these young men experience daily and will place them on a path to success.” [NAACP]
- Rihanna is set to create a concept album for the animated film Home. The DreamWorks Animation toon is based on Adam Rex’s book The True Meaning of Smekday and will also feature voices by Jennifer Lopez and Steve Martin. Home will be released on November 26 through 20th Century Fox. [Variety]
- Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts will deliver the keynote speech honoring Maya Angelou at the 2014 Major League Baseball Beacon Awards Luncheon . The MLB announced Thursday that Roberts will speak at the May 30 event in Houston held before the annual Civil Rights Game. Berry Gordy and football legend Jim Brown will also be honored. Grammy-winning violinist Miri Ben-Ari and singer Aloe Blacc are set to perform. The game will air on the MLB Network. [The Grio]
- Rashida Jones has tapped her real-life parents Quincy Jones and Peggy Lipton to portray her mother and father in her TBS comedy pilot Tribeca. Directed by Steve Carell, Tribeca is a satirical look at police life, focusing on 10-year LAPD veteran Angie (Jones), and a brilliant group of crimesolvers who refuse to rest until justice is served.
