Starz has renewed Power for a ten-episode second season. The show stars Starring Omari Hardwick as a wealthy New York nightclub owner living a double life as a drug kingpin. Naturi Naughton plays Hardwick’s wife. Power premiered this Saturday, pulling in more than 2 million viewers. Production on season two will begin in September.
Jahi McMath, the 13-year-old who became brain dead after a routine tonsil surgery, will receive an honorary diploma from E.C. Reems Academy of Technology and Arts in Oakland, California. Jahi was on course to graduate prior to her surgery. Her diploma will be given to a family member during the Friday ceremony. [TheRoot]
Beyonce has donated $125,000 to Embrace Innovations, an organization behind an infant warmer and low cost alternative to the incubator. Beyonce’s donation will aid in the research and pilot testing of the device in countries like Ethiopia, Ghana and Uganda; possibly saving the lives of over 1,900 underweight babies. Spike Lee has released a short film entitled The Game about Brazil’s love for soccer for the kick off of the World Cup 2014. In the a Brazilian boy follows a football through the streets of his hometown, chasing his ultimate dream of scoring a goal in the stadium. The short will be the latest film track from Pepsi Max’s Beats of the Beautiful Game visual album. The tournament kicks off Thursday night in Rio. [HollywoodReporter]
