ESSENCE FEST alums, Common and Jill Scott are multi-talented artists who have proven to be just as brilliant on screen as they are behind the mic. Fans fell in love with Scott after her moving performance in Tyler Perry’s “Why Did I Get Married,” and Common has starred in various films including the Oscar-nominated film, “Selma.” Long story short, we love watching them onstage and onscreen because they are just so darn good!
Their next film project will bring them to New York City to work under direction of Wu Tang Clan star, RZA. “Coco,” the name of the coming of age film, is set to follow the journey of a college-aged Brooklyn native who wants to become a rapper against her parents’ collegiate wishes. Opinionated rapper Azaelia Banks was chosen to play her and according to various reports, the movie will be a musical.
Can you imagine how amazing an entire soundtrack from Jill Scott and Common could be? We sure hope this is true. Deadline broke the news of the film but did not mention the musical theory, but we will keep you up to date with all of the news.
