Diggy Simmons has carved out a space all his own and his latest single “It Is What It Is” is proof.
The rapper and actor teased the single earlier this week, dropping a video for the track on Friday. Set in a Harlem church, the video, directed by Emmanuel Afolabi, features a choir, ballet dancers, and shots of various people outside the church singing along to Simmons’ song.
“I’m finally able to take a step back and say, ‘It is what it is. I’m happy with this. Here I am,’” Simmons explained of the song’s inspiration in a press release. “A lot of people go through those ups and downs and sometimes you just need to let it be. The song really sets the tone for what is to come.”
Simmons has come a long way since his days on Run’s House. Along with dropping new music, he currently plays Doug on Freeform’s Grown-ish, acting as Jazz’s (Chloe Bailey) love interest on the show.
The rapper is set to release his sophomore album this fall. We’ll be counting down the days.
