The Golden Globe Awards nominations were announced Monday morning and while some of the nominations didn’t come as a surprise, the snubs sure did.
Noticeably shut out from the awards was Ava DuVernay’s critically praised When They See Us. The Netflix series didn’t receive any nominations, a shock considering its recognition at the Emmy’s earlier this year, where actor Jharrel Jermone won for Lead Actor in a Limited Series.
The Hollywood Foreign Press Association, whose members decide the nominees, also failed to nominate female directors in the Best Director for a Motion Picture category. A surprise considering Hustlers, directed by Lorene Scafaria, was a box office success.
The transgender stars of Pose were also noticeably absent from major categories, including Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series; Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series; and Limited Series or Motion Picture Made for Television.
Also, Lupita Nyong’o, Zendaya, and Regina King were snubbed this year. Nyong’o gave a great performance in Us, while King’s turn in Watchmen and Zendaya’s performance in Euphoria have also gotten tons of praise.
While the nominations were disappointing in many categories, there were some delightful nominees. Here’s a list of every Black (and brown!) actor who got a nod.
