HBO has released a teaser trailer for the upcoming third season of Insecure.
The hilarious teaser sees Issa Rae rapping to herself, before being interrupted by a knock on the bathroom door, “Hey, mirror bitch. You lookin’ real clean, you lookin’ real bad, you lookin’ like a queen.”
And, who interrupts this fire freestyle? Daniel. Seems Issa’s still crashing with her on-again, off-again flame.
Season two left a lot of questions unanswered, which we hope to see wrapped up in season three. Is Molly’s boo Dro really in an “open relationship’? Is Tiffany cheating on her hubby Derek? Is the baby his? Are Issa and Lawrence really done?
Jay Ellis, who plays Lawrence, hinted in April that the pair may be completely finished, revealing to Angie Martinez that he hasn’t shot any scenes for season three. “I’m a little bit out of it. I’m not really…they’ve been filming for the last six or seven weeks or something like that,” he said. “I don’t know if there is a relationship. There was closure at the end. There was like full closure.”
Rae may also tackle LGBT issues in the upcoming season. In season one, Molly’s relationship with rent-a-car salesman Jared sparked conversations about bisexuality, when he admitted to Molly that he’d once received oral sex from a man.
“We wanted to start a conversation,” she told BET. “This is something I discuss with my friends. Ten years ago, I remember telling my friends, ‘I’m desynthesized to the construct of Black masculinity and I’m desynthesized to bisexuality.’ We have so many friends who are bisexual or gay and I was like, ‘I don’t think I would trip if a guy i was dating said he had messed with another guy if, in my mind, he still identified as an alpha male.’ They were like, ‘Well, he still f–ked another dude, so he’s gay.’ I just thought that was an interesting conversation. Then the writers brought it up and noted that while some people agreed and some people did not, any conversation like that that sparked a debate we had to put it in on the show.”
Whatever Rae has up her sleeve for season three, we’re sure it will leave viewers talking.
Season three of Insecure premieres Sunday, August 12 at 10:30 pm ET.
