Living Single creator Yvette Lee Bowser and Boomerang writer Leigh Davenport has teamed up to showcase four Black women working on world domination.
The half-hour series Run The World has been given an eight-episode order at Starz. The show follows Amber Stevens West (Greek, The Carmichael Show) as Whitney Green who is reentering the singled after spending her twenties catering to her college sweetheart.
At her side with a table full of shots and a handful of encouragement are the loyal, loving, and supremely stylish Ella McFair played by Andrea Bordeaux (Dynasty, #NCIS: Los Angles), Sondi Hill played by Corbin Reid (Valor, How To Get Away With Murder), and Renee Ross played by Bresha Webb (The Last O.G., #Blackaf)
The wardrobe for the show is reportedly being handled by famed Sex And The City costume designer Patricia Field. The women are seen sporting sharp capes, fierce prints, sculpted bomber jackets, and bold beauty looks in the teaser.
The trailer indicates the undeniable Blackness of this show might be a game-changer for the traditional friends living and loving in the city troupe.
It skips the stock footage of One World Trade Center and Fifth Avenue, and ignores the cultural obsession with the Meat Packing district. Instead it lands in the center of planet Harlem by including the infamous Harriet Tubman statue in the clip. It also features the crew gliding out of historic brownstones, and strolling beneath famed underpasses as they discuss their careers and relationships.
Lee Bowser has also worked on Black-ish, For Your Love, A Different World, Happily Divorced, and Lipstick Jungle. Davenport has served as a producer on Harlem Heights an editorial consultant for Black Girls Rock!
Starz has not yet announced the premiere of Run The World but it is expected to be released in 2021. Can’t wait to see what happens when you sit Black women at the head of the table?
