Idris Elba is already killing it this year.
He earned two SAG Awards, one for his role in Beasts of No Nation and another for his lead role in Luther, and became the first Black male actor to do so—actually, the only male actor to do so!
Now, he’s in negotiations to star in Fox 2000’s The Mountain Between Us, a film adaption of the Charles Martin novel about two people who fall in love after a plane crash, reports The Hollywood Reporter. It’s the kind of film Academy voters love and it could mean a nomination for Elba after one of the biggest snubs of the year.
Elba is also being considered for Stephen King’s big screen adaption of the writer’s fantasy series The Dark Tower alongside Matthew McConaughey. It’s too soon to get excited, but King told Rolling Stone, “I think that it’s more likely than not that Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey will be in it. But I can’t say with any certainty. I know that they’re trying to make deals with these actors [and] with Sony, and that’s the extent of my knowledge.”
Fingers crossed!
