Just days after her Grammy nomination surprise, Janelle Monaé will now be flexing her acting chops in the upcoming Gloria Steinem biopic.
In The Glorias: A Life on the Road, Monae will play Dorothy Pitman Hughes, the activist who co-founded Ms. Magazine and the Women’s Action Alliance with Steinem in the ’70s. The film, which Steinem is executive producing with Amy Richards, includes Julianne Moore and Alicia Vikander playing the feminist and activist at various stages of her life.
Julie Taymor is directing the film based on Steinem’s memoir. It follows Steinem’s journey to become a crusader for equal rights and a global icon.
Monae has a number of films down the pipeline, including Robert Zemeckis-helmed Welcome to Marwen, the animated series UglyDolls, Disney’s live-action Lady and the Tramp remake, and the Harriet Tubman biopic.
We love it!
