Janelle Monae has officially joined the star-studded cast of the forthcoming Harriet Tubman biopic aptly titled Harriet.
Starring British actress and singer Cynthia Erivo as Tubman, and Hamilton’s Leslie Odom Jr., the film recounts the freedom fighter’s story is already one of the most highly anticipated releases of next year.
No information has been shared on what Monae’s role in the film will be, but if her track record is any indication it will probably be significant.
Erivo expressed how thrilled she was with Monae joining the cast on Twitter.
“Proud to have my sister with me on this journey with me,” she wrote. “Love you @JanelleMonae.”
Monae replied expressing her own excitement, writing: “And I love you @CynthiaEriVo. It’s an honor to help tell this story w/ you & all involved. #Harriet.”
The Grammy-nominated singer was introduced to the public eye through her musical talent, but she’s been able to snag prominent roles in critically-acclaimed films, including best picture nominees Moonlight and Hidden Figures.
The release date for Harriet has still not been announced at this time. But we can’t wait!
