Janet Jackson opened her residency in Las Vegas this weekend to rave reviews.
The multiple Grammy Award-winning global music icon launched her Park MGM residency, “Metamorphosis” on Friday, set to take place the same year her album “Rhythm Nation 1814” celebrates its 30th anniversary.
She also opened her show the day after her 53rd birthday.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, Jackson performed some of her classic songs on Friday, including “Control,” “Nasty,” “Love Will Never Do” and “Rhythm Nation” among many more.
“At 7-years-old, I made my debut right here in Las Vegas at the MGM Hotel with my brother and sisters. It’s so amazing how things come full circle,” she said at one point during the two-hour show.
Celebrities in attendance included Gabrielle Union Queen Latifah, Magic Johnson, and Yvette Nicole Brown.
“Strawberry is back. Vegas, are U ready for me?” she asked in the caption of an Instagram photo of herself on stage.
She also announced earlier this week that the three-month residency has been extended with three new shows in August.
