Jason Mitchell’s character in The Chi is no more!
The Showtime drama announced that it would be killing off Brandon, the character played by the disgraced actor, when the show returns for its third season.
“There is a lot of great life in ‘The Chi’ and there’s also death in ‘The Chi’ and that’s how we’ll be dealing with it,” Gary Levine, Showtime’s co-president of entertainment, said Friday during the Television Critics Association summer press tour Friday, Variety reports.
Mitchell was fired from the show in May after sexual harassment allegations leveled at him went public. According to reports, harassment against his co-star Tiffany Boone had become so bad, her fiancé, Dear White People actor Marque Richardson, had to come on set when she shot scenes with Mitchell.
Boone ultimately told Fox 21, which produces The Chi, that she would no longer work with Mitchell.
Other actresses on the series have reportedly had issues with Mitchell as well, and showrunner Ayanna Floyd told The Hollywood Reporter that “ultimately, everyone was well aware of Jason’s behavior and his multiple HR cases.”
Showtime announced it was renewing the Lena Waithe-produced show for a third season back in April, weeks before Mitchell’s scandal broke.
The actor was also dropped by his agent and an upcoming lead role in Netflix’s western flick, Desperado due to his actions.
Mitchell has yet to speak publicly.
