Although today is December 4, or Jay-Z‘s 50th birthday, he’s giving fans a present instead.
The rapper’s entire music catalogue returned to Spotify, which the music service announced on Twitter with a birthday message. “Happy birthday, Hov. Welcome back to Spotify,” the service wrote on Twitter.
JAY-Z’s catalogue had been absent from the streaming service for two years. Instead, they were available on the streaming platform that he owns, Tidal.
The announcement made several fans question the viability of Tidal, which Jigga purchased in 2014 for $56 million. Although they haven’t reported subscriber numbers since 2016 when they had 3 million listeners, by comparison Spotify reported 113 million subscribers back in October.
Spotify isn’t the only streaming service with Jay-Z’s hits. The rapper also placed returned some albums to Apple earlier this year.
Spotify isn’t the only streaming service celebrating Hov’s birthday. The rapper’s streaming service, Tidal, will run a special video stream of all things Jay-Z, including interviews, performances, and music videos today as well. Tidal has also created a number of curated playlists spanning the rapper’s career.
Happy birthday Jay! Looks like 50s the new 20.
