Good news! Soul singer Jazmine Sullivan has announced that her new album, Heaux Tales, is due out on January 8, 2021. She announced the news via a short YouTube clip on December 2.
She also recently performed at the 2020 Soul Train Awards.
Sullivan has been singing since she was a young child in her native Philadelphia, becoming “one to watch” before she was even in her teens. Her debut album, Fearless, was primarily produced by Missy Elliott, whom she met while singing background vocals for fellow Philadelphians Kindred the Family Soul.
Fearless was released when Sullivan was only 22-years-old and contained the songs, “Bust Your Windows,” “Need U Bad” and “Lions, Tigers and Bears.” Her next two albums, Love Me Back and Reality Show, dropped in 2010 and 2015, respectively. Sullivan used the time between albums to focus on herself after the end of a relationship.
“Once I got out of it, I realized that I had stopped doing something that I’d wanted to do all my life,” she told Essence in 2014. She allowed her belief, as well as her loved ones, to help her regain focus. “God and my family got my mind right,” she said.
Now, after another creative break, she’s back with new material that’s sure to remind us all why we fell in love with her in the first place. Keep scrolling to check out 7 reasons why we can’t wait for her upcoming album.
