Some of our favorite holiday tunes are getting a legendary twist. John Legend and his EGOT-worthy talent have recorded a 14-track Christmas album, called A Legendary Christmas.
He announced the news this week in an adorable video he posted to Instagram where he’s wearing a Santa hat and a smile.
“It’s sunny Los Angeles in September,” he said while overlooking the hills in the video, “but I just can’t stop thinking about Christmas!”
Interspersed into the video were clips of him with his wife, Chrissy Teigen, and their children, Luna and Miles, shooting the vintage-style album cover beneath a Christmas tree.
The album, to be released on Oct. 26, features fresh takes on eight traditional Christmas tunes including “Silver Bells,” “Christmas Time Is Here,” and “The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire)”. It also features six original Christmas themed songs, including a duet with Stevie Wonder. The legendary singer also lent his famous harmonica on “What Christmas Means to Me”.
Legend worked with a diverse group of his fellow musicians to infuse some flavor into the holiday spirit. He partnered with Grammy Award-winning violinist Esperanza Spalding on his cover of “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”. The entire cheer-filled collection was executive produced by Raphael Saadiq.
Legend will be taking his yuletide cheer on the road on a 25-date tour that kicks off November 15. Get the details here.
