The Emmy-nominated Scandal star lends her signature voice to the new audiobook of Steve Stoute’s 2011 best-seller The Tanning of America:How Hip-Hop Created a Culture that Rewrote the Rules of the New Economy.
Proceeds for the audiobook will go toward the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities, Washington’s charity.
The Tanning of America chronicles the impact of hip-hop on the global economy over the past three decades.
The book was adapted into a four-part VH1 Rock Doc, The Tanning of America: How Hip Hop Changed Us, which aired in February of 2014. In 2014, Stoute was recognized as one ofFast Company’sMost Creative People in Business, and in 2013, Advertising Age named him Executive of the Year. Much of Translation’s work is based on Stoute’s philosophy about the changing landscape of American culture and how people are all moving toward a shared mental complexion.
