Kevin Hart is on a roll. The self-proclaimed “grown little man” broke records this weekend with new film Ride Along.
According to EW.com, the action flick starring Hart and Ice Cube earned $41.2 million during it’s debut weekend. It now takes the record as the highest grossing movie to be released during Martin Luther King Jr. weekend.
Ride Along also takes the honor of being the biggest Friday-Sunday opening in January history.
The film is projected to rake in $47.8 million once the Monday MLK Jr. holiday is factored in. Hart called the project “his baby” and with a budget of $25 million the Universal film has surpassed expectations.
Although there has been mixed reviews from critics, the comedy received an “A” rating from audiences via CinemaScore.
Hart shows no signs of slowing down; romantic comedy About Last Night will hit theatres February 14 and Think Like a Man Too will debut this summer.
