Lamar Odom is making a return to the TV screen!
The former NBA star and soon-to-be ex-husband of Khloé Kardashian has a deal to star in a new reality series — which has not yet filmed — set for airing sometime in 2017, a source tells PEOPLE.
“The show will be about his life, recovery — all about him,” the source says about the new series.
On Tuesday, PEOPLE reported that Odom, 37, is seeking treatment at a rehabilitation center. “Lamar checked into rehab a week ago. He plans to stay for 30 days. It’s a substance abuse program, but he was not abusing drugs when he went in. He is clean. This is a precautionary measure,” an insider said of Odom’s decision.

“He wants to stay clear and focused. With the divorce from Khloé being finalized and the holidays coming up, he doesn’t want to slip up. He’s trying to take care of himself. He really wants to be better,” the insider added. “His friends and family encouraged him to go in and he agreed and made the decision.”
Looking to the year ahead, a source told PEOPLE that the athlete is “being very adult and mature and just wants to be a great father and brother, sister, a better friend,” and added, “He needs to be in good shape physically and mentally.”
Odom and and Kardashian, 32, tied the knot on national TV in September 2009, but their marriage fell apart after his cheating scandal and drug relapse. The Keeping Up with the Kardashians star first filed for divorce in 2013 and the couple finally both signed divorce papers in July 2015, but a few months later, Kardashian called off their divorce following her husband’s near-fatal overdose in October 2015.
According to court documents obtained by PEOPLE, Kardashian and Odom’s marriage will officially end Dec. 17 when it will be legally terminated and both parties will be restored to status of “single persons.”
After spending time back home in New York City this summer, Odom has since returned to L.A., where he’s maintained a relatively low profile. “Everyone who knows and loves him just wants him to get back to his old self, but that will still take some time,” an insider previously told PEOPLE. “He’s been through a lot and he’s still working on himself.”
And fans and supporters of Odom may soon be able to learn more about his recovery from his point of view. “He’s actually writing while he’s away, he’s doing a lot of writing in there. There’s a book offer on the table,” another insider told PEOPLE. “But part of the deal was that he’s going to get in good shape. Everyone’s been so supportive.”
