There’s a new 007 in town and her name is Lynch, Lashana Lynch.
The British actress made news when it was announced she was joining the upcoming Bond film–the 25th in the franchise. Last April, her character and its story arc were under wraps. Now according to reports in The Daily Mail, we know she’s an equal match for James Bond, played by Daniel Craig.
Here’s what we know of Lynch’s upcoming role according to The Daily Mail: “Traditionalists can relax: she’s not the new Bond, but a new character who takes over his secret agent number after he leaves MI6.”
Hopefully, Lynch will bask in the spotlight of being the first Black woman named a 007 in the series. (We haven’t forgotten the racist uproar when rumors surfaced of Idris Elba becoming Britain’s sexiest secret agent.)
Lynch began filming Bond 25 in Jamaica, which had been a homecoming for the 31-year-old. Although born and raised in London, her family roots run deep throughout the island.
After Lynch’s blockbuster turn in Captain Marvel as a fighter pilot who holds her own against aliens and Nick Fury, she can surely take the reins of saving the world–007 style. In fact, sources tell The Daily Mail Lynch’s unveiling will be one for the books.
“’There is a pivotal scene at the start of the film where M says ‘Come in 007’, and in walks Lashana who is Black, beautiful and a woman. ‘It’s a popcorn-dropping moment. Bond is still Bond but he’s been replaced as 007 by this stunning woman.”
Talk about making an entrance.
