HBO has given fans a taste of what’s to come on their network next year, and fans finally got a small glimpse of its upcoming fantasy-horror series Lovecraft Country, executive produced by Jordan Peele and J.J. Abrams.
In a new commercial, touting all of their series premiering and returning in 2020, not only was Lovecraft Country featured but small vignettes of ESSENCE favorites, including Insecure, Westworld and Succession.
Lovecraft Country, based on the novel of the same name by Matt Ruff, follows Atticus Black (Jonathan Majors), his friend Letitia (Jurnee Smollett-Bell), and his uncle George (Courtney B. Vance) as they embark on a cross-country journey through 1950s Jim Crow America in search of Atticus’ father.
Peele and Underground creator Misha Green co-created the series, with Green also penning all eight episodes.
It was announced in 2017 that Green and Peele had teamed up for the highly anticipated series, with the writer/producer saying, “When I first read Lovecraft Country I knew it had the potential to be unlike anything else on television. Jordan, J.J., Bad Robot, Warner Bros and HBO are all in the business of pushing the limits when it comes to storytelling, and I am beyond thrilled to be working with them on this project.”
A premiere date has not yet been announced, but we’ll be watching.
