The Apollo Theater’s annual Women of the World (WOW) Festival is an event many look forward to every year as artists, innovators, activists, and leaders take the stage for talks and panels aimed at empowering those in attendance.
This year’s WOW Festival is already full of discussions with incredible women like Gabourey Sidibe and Tamika Mallory, but now the festival has added Lupita Nyong’o and Gabby Douglas.
Nyong’o will perform a dramatic reading from Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s Americanah. Douglas is set to discuss cyber-bullying and its effects.
The WOW Festival arrives as the Apollo Theater begins to wrap up its 2016-2017 season, but the legendary theater already has big things in store for the next season.
Planned for the 2017-2018 season are a number of amazing events, including bringing Ta-Nehisi Coates‘ Between the World and Me to life with a multimedia performance. Notable guests will read various selections interspersed with music and stunning visuals.
The theater’s lineup also includes comedy events, its legendary amatuer nights, and a genre-defying opera.
It’s going to be another wonderful year at the Apollo.
